How to Prepare to Leave the Corporate World?

corporate world, your own business, business

If you are considering leaving the corporate world, it can be challenging, but it’s possible. In this article, I’ll cover a few ways you can start creating momentum to launch your own business. Taking your time to build your venture on the side is a great way to learn, gain experience, and grow your business with the security of a stable job.

Here are some things to help you be better prepared for jumping ship and going alone.

Don’t Be Hasty

I wouldn’t recommend just quitting your job. Unless you have ample financial reserves to keep you afloat for a long time, don’t. In fact, it’s better to start building your business on the side while you are still employed to avoid finding yourself in a desperate situation.

Consider thinking about the following:

  • Plan your resignation in advance.
  • Be financially prepared for going it alone.
  • What do you need to be able to run your business?
  • What skills and knowledge do you need?
  • What will you be able to charge?
  • Where will you attract customers?
  • Do you have an established business network?

You never really know how things will go. Perhaps it takes three months, maybe six, it could even take a year or more to establish a stable income. It might take time before you can even match your current income. You don’t know. And it is a massive risk to take a gamble like that.

Set a Deadline for Motivation

Start with the end in mind. If you don’t set a deadline to get your idea off the ground you are never going to get started. Choose a date, give yourself enough time, say at least 6 months. It takes time to build any business. Realistically it might take longer. The key is to set things in motion to move you forward toward the objective you have set.

Consider how much time per week or month you can set aside to build your side hustle. Will it be enough time to plan, research, and start building a viable business? By the time you leave your position, you want to have something that is at least starting to gain traction. That has momentum you can continue to build on.

Assess Your Finances Carefully

Probably the most important thing to consider is your current financial situation. The more stable you are the more you can focus on your business. But if you are struggling to make ends meet, or have little to buffer you, you are taking a huge risk leaving your position. Rather continue to build your business for longer and make sure you are generating income first before resigning.

What is Your Financial Situation?

  • Will your partner or spouse be able to cover certain costs with their salary while you build your business?
  • How stable is your financial situation?
  • What financial capacity do you have?
  • Do you have large amounts of debt?
  • Do you have high expenses and no savings?
  • How much have you got in savings?
  • Do you have money invested that could be used if you need it?
  • What expenses could I drop, and cut my overall expenditure?
  • How much debt do you have, do you have any installments to keep up?
  • What will you do if things don’t work out, what is your back up plan?

You need to weigh up your current financial situation, your savings, investments, and what the knock-on effect will be if you start your own business. There are always unexpected expenses and costs, so be prudent. And depending on how far your business is, it might take longer before you are able to cover all your expenses.

Do Your Research Thoroughly

Launching blindly into a venture is foolish. Don’t dive into it blindsided. Take time to investigate the ideas you may be thinking of pursuing. The internet offers no shortage of resources for this. Here is a list of ways to build a solid foundation of research:

Google It!

Okay, any search engine will do! The secret to deep research is don’t be superficial. Dig deeper. Seek out valuable resources and content that can help you understand what you are getting yourself into before you jump ship!

Follow People on Social Media

One way to learn more is to hear what others are saying about your desired business. If you want to learn more about digital marketing, follow digital marketers. If you want to learn more about blogging, follow bloggers. They are consistently sharing gold, so why not collect it while they give it away…

Scan Forums

There are forums like Reddit and Quora that can offer a hive of interesting information about all kinds of topics. Search out relevant forums that align with your area of interest and search content, ask questions and engage with the community.

Industry Hubs

There are many rich sources of information from industry hubs that share best practices, latest trends, information, and even host events you can attend. Search these out and join their mailing list to keep informed and up-to-date with events and articles.

Established Companies

There will be established companies that you could search for online. See how they engage with their audience, what information they share, and see what they charge. Researching companies that are doing what you want to do, is a great way to understand how to position yourself in the market and be competitive.

The key is to do your homework before jumping into a new business, as you’ll be far better able to handle challenges if you are prepared for it.

Take it Step by Step

Building any business is a process! It takes time. And you need to be patient. Break down the goal of your business, into small incremental steps. Make it attainable. Easy to comprehend and face. If you make your business into one massive mountain, you’re going to feel overwhelmed and probably not even try.

Conclusion

If you want to leave corporate life behind, it is possible. You can do it. But take time to prepare for it, get organized, and start building your venture on the side. Do it while you have financial security. Once you jump ship, you are on your own. If things go bad without the proper preparation and planning, you might very well regret it.

Get started today, and give yourself at the very least a few months to build the momentum you will need. How long you need depends on many factors, the key is balancing the risks. Don’t be hasty, be patient, and build a strong foundation before you take the plunge!

How to Build a Business Around Your Strengths and Flourish?

There are many reasons people start a business. Often it’s not always because they want to start one. It might be out of desperation, frustration, or a need to break away from the rat race. Whatever your reason there are some serious questions you should ask yourself before diving into a business.

What are your strengths both professionally and personally?

One of the best places to start is with your strengths? Why you might ask? Because building a business is tough, and it takes time and a lot of effort. The thing is it’s even harder when you build a business from a point of weakness. For example, building a software development company but don’t have a passion for coding, well, you going to struggle. Sure you can do the work but your heart and soul just won’t be in it!

And that means when things get tough, you going to struggle to maintain your drive. So be clear about what your strengths are so you choose the right business. For example, personally, you might really struggle to deal with people, but you might think coaching is a good business. This will ultimately backfire on you because you are building your business on a key weakness. It’s going to be far harder to deal with clients, develop coaching programs, and the like.

Be honest with yourself. Identify your key strengths and see how best to calibrate a business around those strengths.

Why use your strengths?

  • You will be building on a stronger foundation.
  • You will have more energy to spend on marketing your business.
  • You will be more confident.
  • You will be more convincing to customers.
  • You will find it easier and more natural than a business that isn’t a good fit.

What Are You Really Curious About?

One way to make a decision about what business to choose is by choosing something you really curious about. If you have a huge curiosity for digital marketing, then this could be a good idea for a business. You don’t have to know everything about a field to start a business. You could start by offering low-level products or services and build up from there. The most important is to be driven to learn and grow your skills and knowledge in a given field. Running a business means you have to be learning constantly.

Write down what you are really interested in, and what you are really curious about. Make a list. And after you have a decent list, start to scrutinize each option. Ask yourself which ones you are more passionate and curious about than others. Which ones could you see yourself pursuing long-term? And which ones could sprout viable business ideas.

If for example, you are passionate about digital marketing, dig a bit deeper. Ask yourself what interests me the most in digital marketing?

  • Is it content creation? Writing? Audio or Video?
  • Is it social media marketing? Email marketing? Blogging?
  • Is it analytics, data analysis, and reporting?
  • Is it advertising? Social media advertising or search engine advertising?
  • Is it planning and strategy? Helping customers figure out a custom plan?

Conclusion

The key is to dig deeper into your key strengths and desire to learn. By doing that you will be building a business that has a strong foundation and will be more likely to weather the storms that every business owner will face!

Six Easy Ways to Improve your Online Security Today

The internet offers us many incredible platforms to do amazing things. The problem is that every day we use online services we are exposing ourselves to numerous cyber threats? And these threats have been increasing at an alarming pace over the past two years since the pandemic. In this article I will cover various security threats that you can improve today!

Here are six threats to your online security:

Weak Passwords

Setting weak passwords is one of the most common mistakes people make. And this is what cybercriminals hope you will neglect. Because they use techniques called Bruteforce attacks, that use password tools to try to crack your passwords using password combinations.

“A brute force attack is a hacking method that uses trial and error to crack passwords, login credentials, and encryption keys. The hacker tries multiple usernames and passwords, often using a computer to test a wide range of combinations until they find the correct login information.” – Fortinet.

This is the reason most online services will encourage you to set strong passwords. Try using a combination of capital letters, small letters, special characters, numbers in strange combinations. The more complex the password, the more difficult it will be to guess your password. And this will minimize the risk of such attacks.

But keeping track of all your digital accounts can be a nightmare! And remembering every password becomes almost impossible. But there is a better way that can save you the headache of remembering them. Password Managers are the solution. They can assist you in creating highly complex passwords nearly impossible to guess. If you’ve had enough of remembering all your account details, consider one of these password managers : Keeper Security, Dashlane, or LastPass, all trustworthy and respected apps.

Outdated System OS

Your operating system is the foundation of your device. If you have outdated components that are vulnerable to exploits, you will be leaving your computer open to attack. All operating systems offer the ability to set updates automatically. But not always! So make sure, double-check your updates are downloading and installing regularly.

This goes for Windows, Mac, and Android devices, so there is no excuse for not having your device uptodate with the latest security patches.

NOTE: Some older Android devices may only update to a specific version, and you may need to upgrade your device to get the latest OS.

Viruses and Malware Threats

“Malware increased by 358% in 2020 “A research study conducted by Deep Instinct reports on the hundreds of millions of attempted cyberattacks that occurred every day throughout 2020 showing malware increased by 358% overall and ransomware increased by 435% as compared with 2019.”Malware increased by 358% in 2020 – Help Net Security

Malware has been increasing at an alarming rate over the past two years. Now more than ever it is critical that you protect yourself from these threats. One way to improve the security of your system is to install Anti-virus software. This software acts as a shield against various malicious exploits that you can experience while using the internet, receiving emails, or copying files from an external drive to your computer.

Because these apps update constantly they can react to new outbreaks of viruses and malware as they happen. It’s a simple and cost-effective way to protect your devices even if you have little knowledge of viruses and other cyber threats. Security software like Kaspersky Internet Security or Bit Defenders Internet Security offers solutions that take care of these issues in the background while you work.

Phishing Attacks

“Phishing is a type of social engineering where an attacker sends a fraudulent (e.g., spoofed, fake, or otherwise deceptive) message designed to trick a human victim into revealing sensitive information to the attacker or to deploy malicious software on the victim’s infrastructure like ransomware.

Phishing attacks have become increasingly sophisticated and often transparently mirror the site being targeted, allowing the attacker to observe everything while the victim is navigating the site, and transverse any additional security boundaries with the victim.[1] As of 2020, phishing is by far the most common attack performed by cybercriminals, with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Centre recording over twice as many incidents of phishing than any other type of computer crime.” – Wikipedia

As stated phishing is a major threat to individuals and businesses alike. And being aware of the way attackers work will help you be better prepared for when they try to con you. The key is not trusting any email that asks you to reset your password or submit sensitive data. Rather first clarify who is asking for this information, and contact the company directly to clarify that this is legit or a scam.

Malicious Website Links

When browsing the internet it’s always best to browse trustworthy sites. One of the ways you can easily launch malware is by clicking on links that are malicious. Once you’ve clicked on a link, code can be executed if you don’t have any browser protection. This can infect your browser and device, which could lead to unwanted security issues.

Malicious links are often found in emails. When receiving emails be sure it’s from someone you know. But considering that viruses can send emails from infected devices, if a message seems a bit strange, don’t just trust it. Best not to follow any links in the message unless you are sure it’s safe. You just don’t know where it is linking to, and if it is safe. And although security software can protect you, prevention is better than a cure.

Public Hotspots & Privacy

As mobile working has become the new norm, many people are working from public places where wifi hotspots are available. The thing is that when you log onto these networks, you are opening your device to attack. Your connection to the web is not encrypted, and some of that information can compromise your security. A hacker that is on that network can attempt to compromise your device or see what data is being sent from your device.

A VPN or Virtual Private Network service can create a secure encrypted connection so no one on the public network can see the information you are sending or receiving. Examples of VPN services are ExpressVPN and NordVPN, both highly reputable companies.

Conclusion

Cybersecurity is a complex subject. And these six points are just some simple ways you can begin to take control of your digital security. It’s by no means the end of it. But by taking steps like this you can reduce the risk of falling prey to malicious tactics. Software and apps can make security easier to manage, but software isn’t perfect. It’s up to us to be vigilant and react to any suspicious activity that we see happening on our devices…

How to Grow your Online Presence with Content Marketing?

The internet has without a doubt become an indispensable part of our daily lives. Searching and sharing content is happening at scale from individuals to large corporates. Social media buzzes and pulses all day long with content that is posted and shared more times than we can fathom.

So the question is… is content really king?

Here are nine reasons that content marketing could very well be worth investing in:

Content Creates Visibility

The more you create and share content online the more people will see your content? It’s the medium through which your audience can connect with you. In fact the more you post, the more likely they will be to engage and interact with your content.

If you consistently create content on social media platforms or your blog you will be building a foundation that will build a strong online presence. And that means more opportunities for you in the long run.

Content Helps Establish Trust

Before you can sell your products and services you need to establish trust with your audience. This doesn’t happen overnight. It’s not a once of activity. Trust is built over time, and this is why creating content should be a long-term strategy to build your business. To build trust you need to be consistent, publish good quality content, engage with your audience, and add value on some level.

People are more likely to trust people or brands that have a consistent and established online presence. It’s a signal to people you are in this for the long run.

Content Can Help Build Your Brand

Content can be used to establish your brand both visually and verbally. By applying consistent design to your content you can help readers immediately recognize you by your visual signature. This can extend to the voice of your content. Is it funny, witty, edgy, or professional?

Your content gives your brand an opportunity to establish your voice and speak the language of your audience. It’s this brand that builds fans, followers, and customers. It establishes a clear way of communicating with your audience that will help you connect with the right people. The stronger this connection, the more likely they will be to support you, follow up and buy from you.

Your brand is your personality and the way you communicate. It’s that energy you express through your content. It can act as a magnet, if you use it well, you will certainly grow your audience.

Content Educates Your Audience

One of the most important functions that content serves is educating prospects. It offers you a medium to share information that is relevant to your reader. You can organize this information in ways that can help your audience to understand what you sell and do.

People are searching for answers every day. They are searching right now on Google for answers to questions they have. This is an opportunity to create content that your audience may be looking to find.

In fact, using keyword research tools can give you more detailed insights into what exactly people are searching for in Google. And this can help you figure out how best to structure your content.

Content Helps Your Audience

Probably the most valuable content is the content that helps your audience solve a problem. So when you start creating content you should be asking yourself the following:

  • How does this content help my audience?
  • Is it adding any value?
  • Why would my audience want to read this?
  • Does this help my audience achieve anything?
  • Would people find this interesting?

At the end of the day, you are sharing content to attract people to your social media page or website. If you understand what content will serve your audience best, you will be better able to grow your following.

Content Can Be Repurposed

One thing you can do with your content is to repurpose it. And that means taking content from one medium to another. For example, a collection of blog posts could become an ebook. This ebook could become a lead magnet on your website.

You could create a video from the content you posted on your blog and share that on social media. The point is that your content can be used in different ways and doesn’t have to stay a blog post or a video. It can be used to create even more content in different mediums.

Content builds community

When creating content on social media you will find people start to follow you. As these few people grow from a few hundred to thousands, you begin to have a stronger and stronger influence. This means you have the ability to leverage more and more opportunities as you communicate with more people.

Your following can then be monetized through offering your products, services or promoting affiliate products.

Content Improves Your SEO

By regularly posting content on your blog you will be improving your SEO. Google rewards websites that post regular content as it sees your site as active. If you want more traffic, post more content! Make sure it’s good quality and that people will find it interesting. You are primarily writing for your audience, but if you ensure your content is SEO friendly it will help rank your content better.

Content Can Be Monetized

If you want to make money from your content, you can, by using affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is really promoting products and services that you either use or relate to the subject of your blog.

The more you write on specific topics the more people will find your content. When they read your content, there could be banners or links to products or services that are relevant. And there is a very high chance that people will want to buy these products.

This is how bloggers monetize their blogs. And it’s an industry that is growing every day as more products and services are available to market.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, content marketing is a powerful medium to create visibility for your business or blog. It can attract the audience you want to connect to and build authority in a chosen field. Whether you are building a brand, launching a venture, or monetizing your blog, content done right can not only build a global audience, it can earn you income.

How To Improve Your Productivity when you Work From Home?

Over the past two years work from home has become a buzzword. Not only for employees working for companies but also for those who are self-employed. Although much of the technologies were available prior to the pandemic, many companies were forced to encourage employees to work remotely.

Today many employees have embraced the idea of working from home and being available for their families. But some question whether employees can be as productive at home as they are in the office. So here are some ways you can increase your productivity while working from home.

Designate a Workspace

The most important part of working from home on a long-term basis is setting up a workspace. The reason for this is to help you be organized. Have everything you need in one place. And help allow you to move into the work mindset when you sit down at your desk.

It will be beneficial if you use a room that has a door you can close. This will help when you need that extra bit of quiet when focusing on critical work while others are in the house.

You want to make sure there is ample light and fresh air. Simple yet important for sustained working. Setting up a pleasant and organized work area is key to helping you sustain optimal performance.

Clear the Clutter

If you like me or most people, clutter can drain you. If your workspace looks more like a storage area than a workspace you might find yourself feeling irritated rather than relaxed. Clear the clutter and ensure your work area is neat and clean. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel and focus!

Get Comfortable

If you working at your laptop for hours, a comfortable chair and stable desk are essential. Don’t underestimate what a comfortable workstation can do for your back, neck, and productivity! The more comfortable and at ease you are, the more you can focus on your work. That means you going to be getting more done in less time!

Read more about : Why Not To Quit Your Job To Start A Business

Set the Mood

Getting into the work mindset while at home can be tough. You might find yourself feeling like you want to walk away from your desk. Break the mood by playing some music or listening to a podcast or video in the background.

Just hearing other people in the background can help you settle down and get into the work mood. Having décor, paintings, or posters on the wall can also change the feel of the room. Try changing the layout or décor and see if it makes you feel better.

Set a Work Schedule

When working from home you might have the tendency to fall out of a strict working schedule. This can be fine from time to time, but as a rule, might reduce your productivity in the long run. Be strict with yourself and commit to being at your desk by a certain time. This routine will also create a sense of certainty that will further enhance your confidence.

Use a Calendar

Our phones and computers have calendars built-in. They are easy to use and can be set to remind you of events, appointments, or just tasks that need to be done.

Using them as a tool can greatly increase your productivity by ensuring you don’t forget things like meetings and important tasks. Because we carry our phones with us, we can be sure we will get reminders and avoid missing those Zoom meetings you love so much!

Prepare for Distractions

Working from home can be a pleasure, but it can also be a hurdle of endless distractions. If you are a parent you know what I’m talking about. It is one of the challenges of blending home life with work productivity.

Taking time to prepare for the day can help reduce the distractions or help you navigate through them a bit better. Have someone you trust to take care of your children when you know you going to have a busy day that needs your full attention.

Take Breaks!

When you are at home there can be an inclination to keep working relentlessly until you’ve “finished” your work. This might seem honorable but it’s not sustainable. Know when to walk away and give yourself some space to breathe. Also taking time to spend with family at the appropriate times will also help avoid you alienating them and ensure you maintain balance in your life.

Change the Scenery

One of the biggest drawbacks of working from home for some can be the monotony of never leaving home. This became evident during strict Covid lockdowns and frustrated many people.

If you feeling a bit of cabin fever, it might be a good idea to pack your laptop and leave home to work at a local coffee shop or friend. The change might just be what you need to get your edge back.

Be Flexible

Often working from home means you have interruptions as we’ve already mentioned. This is just part of the territory of working from home. So instead of getting stressed out about it, be flexible.

If you lose an hour in the day to deal with issues at home, then add an hour in later in the day, or start earlier tomorrow. We can’t stop things from happening around us, but we can respond to them proactively. So be flexible and adapt your schedule as required, make it okay and you will save yourself a ton of stress.

Monitor Your Performance

Being productive is important. And one way to monitor your productivity is by noting the time you work and what you have achieved every day. In this way, you can gauge whether you are getting things done.

Assess your performance on a week-to-week basis and see how you are doing. Assess what you have achieved and see how you can improve. Often it’s small improvements that can make the biggest difference.

Conclusion

Working from home can be both challenging and positive. The key is really being organized, having a designated work area, setting your hours, knowing when to take a break and when to buckle down. Distractions will happen, kids will demand your attention and yes sometimes you’ll have to drop your work to deal with a crisis.

The ultimate strategy is being prepared for the uncertainty and working in a way that facilitates the highest performance. So, try to let go a little and embrace a flexible work style and you’ll feel more positive, less stressed out, and enjoy working while knowing you are a room away from your family…

How to Improve the SEO of your Website in 7 Steps?

PageRank is the algorithm developed by Google to rank webpages based on the number of links pointing to them from other pages. The higher the webpage’s ranking in search results, generally means that webpage has more incoming links. If you want to boost your webpage ranking in search results, there are several things you can do:

In this article we will be covering the following:

  1. Optimize Page Titles and Descriptions
  2. Create Link-Worthy Content
  3. Optimize for Keywords
  4. Submit A Sitemap to Google
  5. Add Social Media Buttons
  6. Link to other Webpages
  7. Use SEO Plugins

How to improve the SEO on your webpages:

1) Optimize Page Titles and Descriptions

Both of these should include words you want to rank for in search engines. Google analyses keywords of webpage titles and meta-descriptions to determine how relevant they are to the search intent of the user. The more relevant the keyword you’re trying to rank for, the better.

2) Create Link-Worthy Content

The more backlinks your webpage can get from high page rank websites, the higher your page rank will be. Content that is interesting and informative will inspire people to share it on social media and in blog posts, generating links and thus boosting up your page rank.

3) Optimize for Keywords

While you can’t easily boost your webpage ranking in search results, you can optimize it to make search engines find it easier. Use Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools to find out what keywords people are using to reach your webpage, and use those keywords throughout your content so that your webpage ranks better for those important searches.

4) Submit A Sitemap to Google

A sitemap is a list of pages on your website, submitted to search engines. This tells search engines where all the important content they should be indexing is located on your page, making it easier for them to crawl and rank your site.

Find out more about : A Blueprint to Start Your Online Business Faster

5) Add Social Media Buttons

The more people share your amazing content on social media, the higher it will rank in Google’s image results. Social signals are considered a ranking factor by search engines, although they have never been confirmed as such by Google or Bing.

6) Link to other Webpages

When you reference another webpage in your content, Google sees that as a sign of relevancy and will give your webpage a higher rank. Obviously, random links to sites just to create links will only be seen in a negative light, so use them naturally and appropriately.

7) Use SEO Plugins

You can also use SEO plugins like tools like All-In-One SEO to help optimize your webpage for relevant keywords and create meta-descriptions and titles that will help you rank for those terms.

Conclusion

While there is no guaranteed way to increase your site rank, the methods listed above can be very helpful in improving how search engines rank your webpages. SEO takes time and is a long-term strategy rather than a quick way to get traffic. The time that it will take to improve your rankings in search engines are influenced by many variables.

The key is to take time regularly to see how you are ranking in Google, using analytic tools to monitor and pick up opportunities to improve your site ranking. Start today and see how things improve over time.

What are the Downsides of Being a Software Developer?

Software is what makes the world go around. Apps and software manage almost every aspect of our digital lives and even our physical lives. But behind these amazing apps are software developers who spend hours and hours designing, coding, and fixing bugs. And although developing apps can be a rewarding career, it also has many frustrating aspects that can challenge even the most dedicated developer.

I will list six frustrations that I have experienced as a software developer in the course of my job, so let’s dive in.

  1. Keeping Up with Technological Changes
  2. Unexpected Technical Issues
  3. Unrealistic Client Expectations
  4. Poor Documentation
  5. Spending More Time Fixing Bugs
  6. Developing Unnecessary Features

Keeping Up with Technological Changes

Technology by definition is about change and advancement. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage. Technology can improve what is possible or what can be done. But technology can also create massive uncertainty because things are changing so fast.

This constant change puts pressure on developers to constantly stay up to date with the latest technologies. This requires constant learning. But also can be incredibly frustrating as often things change without knowing that they have changed.

It is probably far better to specialize in specific fields of technology, or languages in order to keep up with the rapid changes and developments that are happening. It is just impossible to know everything and keep up to date with every piece of technology that is changing.

Unexpected Technical Issues

When developing solutions for customers its is possible to run into software development challenges. These technical issues may not have been expected because of various reasons.

The more diverse the development environment the more chances there are that you may stumble onto various technical issues. Especially when integrating different technologies that you are not familiar with or when applying new technologies.

Facing this kind of challenge needs to be expected, and is one of the reasons that careful planning is needed to coordinate different aspects of a project. Technical input from experienced team members can help highlight possible hurdles that the team may face.

Software is never perfect. It is never fixed and there are always unexpected surprises waiting for developers when tackling a project. It will always be part of the development territory, and part of the job.

If you don’t enjoy the constant hurdling over technical problems, you could be in for a nightmare!

Unrealistic Client Expectations

One frustrating part of being a developer is when clients want you to make little changes that seem to take forever.

These are usually small things that they see or want to add, but they don’t understand that these small changes can have a big impact on the development process.

Often when trying to communicate the complexities of the changes that the client may suggest, they question your ability. They feel that the changes should be possible, but don’t understand the technical complications of that one change.

If the customer had communicated their needs better and been more forthcoming you could have included the feature in the original project outline.

Poor Documentation

Software development is a complicated process and it can be pretty challenging. Developers have to make sure everything works the way it should. This means following procedures to ensure development is done in a structured and orderly manner. This is why documentation is so important.

Changes need to be tracked and good documentation is there to help developers fix issues down the road. This is especially important for those that are new to an organization. It allows them to go back and see why pieces of code were written, and what problems were encountered.

The problem is, proper documentation is not always available. This means developers have to spend time figuring out why sections of code were included. If you have ever been in a situation where you were working on a project and had no idea why the previous developer wrote code, you know what I’m talking about.

Spending More Time Fixing Bugs

Probably one of the most frustrating aspects of software development is bug fixing. This can be a time-consuming exercise. And what can make it even more frustrating is when the combination of bad planning, incomplete documentation, mixed with demanding clients.

Unfortunately due to the fact that technology is ever changing and environments vary, there will always be bugs that pop up when you least expect it.

If you find spending hours troubleshooting why code is doing what it’s doing, maybe software development isn’t the career for you.

But if you are an analytical mind and enjoy being constantly challenged to solve complex problems, then software development may be a career to consider.

For many developers constantly fixing development environment issues, and project issues can get exhausting over time. It’s not so much the coding, but the associated challenges and troubleshooting that can be very frustrating.

Developing Unnecessary Features

Sometimes you might spend time developing a feature that isn’t used. Perhaps the client asked for a feature that was developed but not needed.

This can be frustrating as it’s time wasted that could have been spent on doing more productive activities. Maybe you could have been focused on other issues that needed attention.

Either way this can happen and is usually due to a lack of communication and clarifying exactly what the client needs. This is another reason why taking enough time for planning software development projects is crucial.

This planning needs to go hand in hand with client discussions. It is critical to ensure that time isn’t wasted on developing software features that are not needed or leaving out features that are needed.

Whould you consider Software Development as a Career?

Software development is a challenging field. It is highly technical and requires a strong desire to learn constantly to keep your skills relevant.

If you don’t enjoy the constantly evolving environment of technologies, or spending hours problem solving, then I’d highly suggest a more stable field.

Long-term the challenges of keeping up with software development technologies can become exhausting, even for the most enthusiastic of developers.

If you’ve reached a point where you are ready to walk away from your developer role, I’d suggest looking into starting a side hustle building an online income stream. This way you can create a new challenge and build a way out of a frustrating position.

Why Not To Quit Your Job To Start A Business?

We all have a unique journey through this life. And we can all find ourselves unsure of what we are doing and why we are doing it. It can be tempting to want to quit your job immediately and start a business. But, there are some key differences between having a job and running a business. There are lessons to learn which can be done while you still work for a boss. (In some ways, starting a business replaces one boss for many!)

So, take a breath, relax, and plan your journey.

While you still have your job

Understand your Financial Situation

When starting a business, there is a key difference in your finances. Regular income vs Irregular income (Maybe none at first). Having your salary paid in each month on a certain day gives the comfort of planning your living expenses.

So, before you quit your job, make sure most (all if possible) of these boxes are ticked:

  • Rework your budget and remove all excess expenses (This will require a conversation with the family)
  • Have as few liabilities as possible (Car payments, bank loans etc)
  • Have 6-months expenses in your bank for hard times

Do your Business Research (Plan)

What business are you starting? Who are your customers? Where will you find them? What is your unique selling proposition?

These are some of the questions you need to answer before quitting your job. Personally, I don’t believe in a complex business plan. I am more of a let’s get moving kind of guy. But you do need to workshop your business ideas and have a general direction to move on. And a business quarterly review/update.

Find people that are doing what you want to do. Ask them questions about how they started and what problems they faced in the beginning. You can find them on LinkedIn, Meetup, and many other online platforms. Even if you can’t find specific people in your niche, connect with business owners and entrepreneurs. They have been through the pains of starting a business. You might be able to leverage their lessons.

Start on the foundations

While you are working a job, in your spare time, start doing the business you want to do. Just 1 or 2 hours a day consistently starts to show results in the initial months. Consistency is the key. In my business, there at 3 components, I need to keep doing. They are related to helping others in Online Business.

  • Write content
  • Send weekly emails
  • Social Media

Of course, there are many other things that need to be done, but you have to focus on money-making activities

Be consistent

As alluded to above, consistency is key. Get into good habits and stick to a plan. Here are some pointers on how to get into Good Habits.

How Jarvis.AI Can End Writers Block and Help You Write Better and Faster?

Have you ever found yourself staring at your computer screen wondering what to write? Well, you are not alone! I think everyone has had this experience at some point or another. Maybe you need to write a post for your company’s website. Perhaps you need to write a social media post or advert? Whatever you may need to write, the fact is, sometimes writing is a lot tougher than it sounds! And well, that’s where a little help can go a long way. Artificial intelligence has been gaining momentum over the past decade or more and has started to filter down into our everyday lives. Take social media and search engine algorithms as an example. Intelligent systems are used to deliver intelligent results based on large arrays of data. We see the effect of these systems every day as we interact with these interfaces.

So has AI reached a point where it can write content?

What is Jarvis?

Enter Jarvis! A revolutionary new writing tool using artificial intelligence to help anyone from seasoned writers to beginners. It has the capability to write different types of content based on the inputs that you give it.

Creepy… but true.

The team at jarvis.ai has managed to train this AI writer to generate content for various short and long-form content. Give it the right inputs and you can get the kind of content you need. It does require guidance but it can be guided to write some interesting types of content.

How does Jarvis work?

Jarvis is based on an Artificial Intelligence framework that is capable of learning languages in order to be able to write. The information that Jarvis draws from is sourced from the internet. The company states that Jarvis has read close to 10% of the world’s content from blog posts, Reddit threads, websites, newspapers and much more.

Through the sheer volume of information, Jarvis has consumed, it is able to evaluate how language is used and how to write expressively. Yes, believe it or not, Jarvis can actually express emotions through adjusting the tone of voice he writes in. This allows the content created to be engaging for the reader, quite an astounding achievement.

According to their website, “The base training was completed at the end of 2019. That means Jarvis doesn’t know about current events from January 2020 and beyond. Jarvis doesn’t know COVID-19 happened.”

Even though the AI doesn’t “know” that the pandemic happened, it can still write content based on the inputs you give it to generate relevant content that is based on current affairs.

“While Jarvis may not know about COVID-19 or that the Lakers won the 2020 NBA Championship, he does know vast amounts about coronaviruses, pandemics, Wuhan, SARS, Lebron James, Basketball, The Lakers, and NBA. By feeding Jarvis updated information about the topic you’re writing about, you’ll see Jarvis can typically do a great job of writing about it.”

Why would you need Jarvis.ai?

Writing isn’t for everyone!

In fact, even writers can get writer’s block at times. It happens. It’s a real thing. And this is the very reason why you would want to consider using an AI writing assistant.

You could even use Jarvis for generating ideas or outlines for blog posts, websites, adverts, or other content. In fact according to their website, “While Jarvis has read much of the internet, the way he is trained to write causes him to put more emphasis on creativity than factuality.”

The point is that Jarvis has been designed to focus on creativity first and I can imagine as time passes it will be able to generate more factually accurate content. So you will need to make sure that anything that Jarvis writes is factually correct. This is fair as you are ultimately responsible for any content you publish.

Having said that there are many things Jarvis can do that can help break writer’s block and help you create content that can be used as needed.

Templates for Writing

Jarvis has around 50 templates and growing that can help you get started with various writing projects. These templates make it as simple as adding a title, a description, and setting a tone of voice. The clearer your inputs the better Jarvis will understand the brief so take your time to clarify what you want written.

  • Long-form content for blog articles and other content.
  • Text summarizer – get a breakdown of the text you input.
  • Engaging questions – ideas for questions to ask your audience.
  • Press Release Title & Introduction – Write the opening paragraph of a press release that people will actually want to read.
  • Unique Value Proposition – Create a clear statement that describes the benefit of an offer in a unique way.
  • Personal Bios – Create an interesting personal bio that grabs attention.
  • Company Bios – Tell your company’s story in a captivating way.
  • YouTube Descriptions – Create descriptions for your Youtube videos that rank well in search engines.
  • Video Topic Ideas – Brainstorm ideas for your next video.
  • Google Ads Description – Create high converting copy for your Ad description.
  • And much more…

Boss Mode

If the templates are not enough for you then Boss Mode might be the choice for you! It allows you to interact directly with Jarvis but you can only enable Boss Mode on the top-tier package. What this does is allow you to type commands, or use voice commands to tell Jarvis what to do. Pretty insane, but true.

If you want more control over how Jarvis writes you definitely want to invest in this feature! You might even feel like Ironman, just saying…

Training

Once you’ve signed up and had access to Jarvis, I’d highly recommend running through the Jarvis Bootcamp. The Bootcamp will explain concepts like how the AI learns language, writes, and how to get the results you want. I wouldn’t suggest diving headfirst into it as you might waste time and your allotted word count.

I think they’ve done a fantastic job in creating a fun format for learning about Jarvis. The training is short, to the point and the videos are done in a fun and entertaining way that I found helpful, informative, and easy to grasp. So invest the time, maybe 45minutes to an hour so you can get better results from the platform.

Conclusion

Artificial Intelligence is here and it’s making waves. Is it good enough to replace a writer altogether? No, not right now. It still requires you to input information and guides it. Is it worth considering as a writing aid? Definitely! It can help writers brainstorm, create written paragraphs, and help generate content when struggling to get the creative ball rolling!

If you write content regularly it might be a great tool to assist in the process. Jarvis offers a 5 day trial with 10 000 word count, so you can test it out for yourself.

Write on…
